Sand grains galore….90mm/MC-20 magic!
62

Here we go

high resolution stacks - about 50 images stacked for each image you see….and those 50 images are 80MP jpegs using the EM1 Mark 3 camera, MC-20 teleconverter, and OM 90mm Pro macro lens.  I use OM Capture software to manually bracket the shots - having the camera hooked up to my computer -

f10

iso200

Godox 32 led lights to get the best color and reflections.

the garnets I balance on top of the other grains are between 0.2 and 0.3mm wide - so each image is around or just over 1mm field of view.  Yes, that means I’m cropping a bit of the 4mm stack, but I’ve got plenty of pixels to do this with.  Stacking in Helicon, method C

sand is from near Bandon, Oregon

Here’s what the sand looks like that I go through looking for these gorgeous garnets- 4mm field of view approximately:

why not…I’ll include an insane shot of the scales on a Madagascar Sunset Moth

under 1mm field of view left to right

I use topaz Sharpening for these shots on a minimal setting.
