You are wrong because I didn't know the mosquito was there so I did not stop the lens down to photograph it. I focused on the back of the chair closest to me and closer than the mosquito was to the camera so a shallower DOF at the same f-stop on an FF system would have put the mosquito further out of the DOF.

Measurebate all you want, Jim. The mosquito is likely out of the DOF and shot with a FF system it would be further out of focus. Deeper, not shallow DOF would have done a better job in this circumstance.

No measurebating { the spell checker really want to correct that  }  required . The point is not that deeper DOF would have been better if you wanted the mosquito in focus but rather that you could have done so with APS/FF by selecting the appropriate  aperture for the DOF you require. All formats are impacted from diffraction at the same DOF so if you needed to stop the 50mm down to F/5.6 on m43 a 100mm macro on FF at F/11 would have given you the desired DOF.

Had you spotted the little monster and wanted it in focus you would have stopped the lens down. Just the same with the APS or FF user, so it is a moot point that when shot at the wrong aperture one format happens to be more out of focus . Deeper DOF is only an advantage if the user of a different format cannot achieve it

I had the 50mm lens from my FT days a lovely lens with great rendering. I ended up getting rid of it as I mainly shot Panasonic m43 for years where its AF performance was an issue
