You don't say what camera you have. Starting with E-M1ii, Olympus cameras had the capability to produce clean output (no settings overlay). If you want the full live view image the camera displays, then you want to go to the Video menu and select HDMI Output and then select "Monitor" (it should be set on "Record". This will output video and info display. You can then enable/disable the info display using the info button.

I have the OM-1. I think I already tried that setting but I don't think it made any difference (for shooting stills at least). I'm fine with having the settings on the laptop but would like to keep them on camera as well

I have the same issue when connecting to a monitor.  The HDMI output settings appear to only work with a video recorder.  Normally, I only do this with a monitor attached to the camera, and I want the info settings on the monitor and don't care much about the camera display.

I cannot switch to "Record" when using my on camera monitor; it doesn't recognize the monitor as a recorder and locks up the display.  I have to unplug to get the menu to display in order to set it back to "Monitor".

In addition, I just tried using an HD Video capture card that works fine with my Panasonic G9ii, and it won't communicate with it at all.  I've downloaded the OM Webcam Beta software to see if that will work, but haven't pursued it yet.

Supposedly, an Elgato Cam Link will work, so I ordered one.

Note: Panasonic G9ii isn't mirroring info like previous cameras did, but I can still select where info goes, camera monitor or HDMI monitor.
