Tethering via HDMI

Hi all,
I want to have a better view on what I'm doing while photographing portraits.
I tried to connect my camera to my laptop via HDMI using a capture card. However when connected the camera doesn't show any shooting settings or other info, just the liveview. Is there any solution to this?
I also tried OM capture, I dont really like the playback feature though. And using a hot file via Lightroom is a bit slow...
Is there any better alternative or solution?
