Dear friends,
Been out of here for a while, but returned to point you that too many of us is missing something literally obvious hidden between the words... let me cite a two fragments below:
"...Sigma is prototyping a sensor that is a bit smaller than full-frame but uses the same pixel architecture..."
and older one:
"We might even use an APS-C sensor again," .
Sigma sensor design team is now literally at Stage 2, waiting for new prototype to come from production for evaluation & testing of new pixel architecture.
Why no one asked which Fab is producing this a bit smallerprototype sensor (APS-H) ?
Sigma Foveon X3F is still alive and even if we will be forced to wait for FFF sensor a couple of years, it doesn't mean that APS-C / APS-H sensor camera isn't possible to show up in some time.
If you don't belive in success of APS-C/-H sensor size cameras nowdays just look at:
- Fujifilm X100 series lately... F2 23mm, 40MP, retro design...
- Nikon which even went retro with zfc with only 21MP in APS-C...
There is still nowdays market for new Sigma X3F APS-C/-H MILC camera, even with small MP, but it must meet the following conditions:
- Classic retro body design (people see it universal - timeless)
- Good UX - standard speed of operation / bigger memory buffer.
- X3F sensor with usable ISO 1600-3200 - which we already had with old imagers
- Only stills but Foveon colors and microcontrast!
- Small MP count around 24MP - it is more then enough for 90% of users which rarely prints more then A4 size or never (the rest already have good AI Re-scale tools for big printing)
- L-Mount lenses (new 1.4 16/23/35/56) retro design (vide Fujifilm)
- EVF
- Battery life: around 100 pics on one battery (3 in the box and we are good)
- In camera X3F / DNG to TIFF / JPG conversion
- X3F / DNG / TIFF / JPG picture formats (escpecially X3F & 16-bit TIFF write for pro's).
- Color Simulations (nice to have, it could be strong marketing value for beginners).
- 1500$ for body & 1 lens
Just keep waiting and use other brands until it happens!
Best regards,
Ulvervs

The fourth camera in Leica's SL series of full-frame mirrorless cameras sees the 60MP BSI sensor from the Q3 and M11 models arrive with a significant interface redesign.
The Fujifilm X100VI is the sixth iteration of Fujifilm's classically-styled large sensor compact. A 40MP X-Trans sensor, in-body stabilization and 6.2K video are among the updates.
The Nikon Zf is a 24MP full-frame mirrorless camera with classic looks that brings significant improvements to Nikon's mid-price cameras. We just shot a sample reel to get a better feel for its video features and have added our impressions to the review.
