Digital Teleconverter--Threat or Menace

I've never really played with digital teleconverters (DTC). My impression is that they're only a minor improvement over just cropping.

But, since it's a 60F February day north of Boston, why not*. I had the E-M10 Mark II with a 40-150mm R lens. This is my favorite walking around combo, BTW. With my cell phone for wide angles, I'm covered.

Left, crop of normal image. Right, same size crop of DTC image.

Not really much difference in the image that I can see.

Focus on the feather detail on the back. The neck had a weed across it.

Again, I don't see much practical difference.

My conclusion, based on limited evidence. Don't bother, just crop.

*Obviously, George Soros is using orbiting space lasers to warm up all of New England, just to mess with us. I'll take it any way.
