Moving from EF 100-400 MkII -> RF 100-500. Bokeh?
1

Hi folks.

I had my first day in something close to daylight using the RF 100-500. It's much lighter, the larger zoom range is very handy and at 500mm walking around it's easily hand holdable.

The near focus is an improvement.

I still don't like extending barrels.

So, the problem I noticed when I come to edit the photos is the bokeh is minimal. I'm trying to shoot wide open at each focal length. Compared to the EF it's a bit bokehlesss.

Is this expected? If so it's two poor elements that I don't feel is acceptable. However, perhaps it this lens, or my how I'm using it. I enjoy nice flat cuts through spherical bokeh. But now it's mostly vanished.

Your expert thoughts are very welcome.

Any comparisons online anyone could point me too?

Thanks in advance.
