Thank you to the forum members who recommended Blake Rudis's f/64 Academy tutorials

Although I was not new to digital photography or the digital darkroom environment before I started making my way through his "Game of Tones" and "Beyond Color" tutorials, I simply did not have a comfortable handle on how to make fuller use of Photoshop when processing both color and black and white photography to get the desired results. I know there are other very fine teachers and tutorials who cover the same ground - but Rudis's presentation finally opened up my thick skull in the same way that reading Ansel Adams's books informed my practice of black & white darkroom work back in the day.
While I still don't think  "putting lipstick on a pig" will make a good photograph out of a lousy one, what  I am learning from the f/64 Academy courses is how I can make a good photograph better.

Don't be "a photographer.” Be photographing. (Paraphrasing William Faulkner's advice to writers.)
