EF 400 f5.6L with EX or RF 600/600f11

Hi all

I have an R5 and R10. I intend to shoot more birds next year and I already own a 400mm f5.6L which I haven't used that much but have always been pleased with the results when I do. I am wondering about sticking a 1.4 EX ( or even a 2 X ) on it for my birding excursions.

Is this a more sensible plan than getting a 600mm or 800mm f11?

I don't like the idea of having both a TC and a converter on the end of the lens but it's a low - cost option and gives me more light with the 1.4 EX than either of the native RF options.

Putting aside the convenience factor, and in terms of IQ and taking on board the ability to use in lower light what would you fellows recommend?
