How does AutoExposure work?

Is there any documentation how does the Program AE the combination of F-nr/s.s. choose for a given light-situation?
I'm asking because my observation is than e.g. my X-T4 prefer F 5.6 (maybe the MFT-sharpness optimum for most lens ?) and when EV goes up still aperture stays here and AE crunk up only the shorter S.S.
while my older X-E1 happyly chose F8 or even F11 for the same light.

I'm sure it is complicated considering lens model, zoom focal length, ISO, AE program-shift and others I don't even think about, but is this somewhere explained?
