Good examples, similar to what i do. I also notice that if the exposure highlight priority hits -50 then select highlight priority medium, if it hits -99 then select strong. then do your smart lighting.

In addition, if i severally over exposed and reduced exposure using above method i can bring back the brightness if needed by dragging up the tone curve. tweak tone controls to taste or go crazy with the luminosity masks.

Thanks very much maltmoose.

I haven't used luminosity masks yet. Maybe if I come across a more complicated issue. If I have some time I'll go to YT and learn using it. However the ones I showed are more than good enough for me as a starting point. I can continue post processing from there.

Yes, it's possible to achieve a lot very easily in PL. But these features aren't new in PL7, or PL at all. For example, here's a review of DxO Optics Pro 9 from almost a decade ago:

I don't think the Smart lighting, the exposure compensation or (not-very!) selective tone controls have changed at all in that time.

Thanks. It's a great tool to have. Now I am less afraid to have blown highlights although I prefer to have the right exposure right off the bat.
