The OVF is clearly not a screen by that definition and it is that meaning that is being used by TLGG. And, I think everyone else. It is that aspect of it that is rejected by OVF aficionados. The negatives the OVF has as a screen by your definition does not affect the love DSLR users have for the OVF. Or their distaste for the EVF.

Especially in dim lighting and night shooting where the bright screen wipes out my night vision.

Which is why all the recent Nikons have Starlight view settings. Not only does that preserve night vision, but you can actually see things that you can't see with the optical viewfinder.
