The picture was saved ... not the prey!

Hi all,

Today I was at the quiet Jerusalem Bird Observatory.
The "Shaldag" was there observing attentively the water surface ...

The term "שלדג לבן חזה" refers to a white-breasted kingfisher in Hebrew. The white-breasted kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis in Latin) is a species of kingfisher found in certain regions of Asia, Southern Europe, and North Africa.

This kingfisher is characterized by its vibrant plumage, including a white chest, blue-green back, and a rufous band on the belly. Like other kingfishers, it primarily feeds on fish and is often seen near water bodies, where it dives to catch its prey.

The white-breasted kingfisher is appreciated for its beauty and is an iconic bird in many regions where it resides.

At one moment I saw it dived, catching something, flying to a dark shaded zone and sitting on a branch at about 10m ... I could not really see (maybe a frog) but I made a few blindly shots ... They were all very dark when looking at them afterwards on the P1000 screen. I was confident that processing software could make miracles!

Here is one of the originals I will show:

Clearly underexposed!!

Back home I first used HDR Projects 7.
Note: all intermediate images were saved in DNG or PNG.

I did not use any fancy processing, just enjoyed and save the result:

Picture after HDR Project 7 (no denoise, etc...)

I reserved the denoise / deblur processing to Topaz Photo AI ... And here is the result:

Image processed with Topaz Photo AI

Final image with color corrections and classical cropping ...

Picture saved ... Frog R.I.P.

I had the luck to catch some other shots, always at about 10m distance ...
