Violate the DCMA? Hardly. I doubt there is any DRM invested with in
the 300D's firmware.

The worse that would probably happen is that your invalidate your
warrant if your altered the firware. And Canon may refuse to
resurrect a bricked 300d.

Now if somebody started putting the contents of the firmware on a
web site, that would be copyright infringement. Then Canon could
send DCMA takedown notices. And files suit

What's DRM?
