Is it possible to update the firmware for the original FTZ adapter to use it on a Z8 so I can use F mount lenses

Are you familiar with how to update firmware on it? Have you read the instructions?
Once attached, and the firmware is on the SD card, you should be able to update it with the camera itself. Is this not working? What lens/lenses are you using with it? Lenses also have firmware, which sometimes needed to be updated by the manufacturer.

Yes, here is the latest FW for the original FTZ, and it works with my Z8 / 105 f1.4 F mount lens:

The original FTZ firmware was last updated in 2020, and I have used mine with that firmware in my Z8.
What happened when you mounted your original FTZ that makes you ask?
If the firmware of the ftz is the original version, I assume you may have to update it, but the camera should tell you that when you mount the ftz. It's simple to do, even an old man that avoids such things like they are the plague had no problem updating an old one.

I take it then; you have not updated the ZTZ firmware for use with your Z7 & Z6 and the F lenses. Stay Safe!

I have two FTZ adapters ( which I got free with my Z6 and Z7 ) and I have upgraded one of them before. I needed to know if the Z8 will work with this or did I need to upgrade to an FTZ 2

Both the FTZ and FTZii work with all Z cameras. The “ii” gets rid of the tripod bump so it will better fit on the Z9 given its grip, but otherwise they are the same.

I've used the original FTZ adapter on my Z8 and it works fine.
