My A7IV bodies AF fine in this setting. I use tracking with no limitations when shooting two stops under the flash exposure. It's not a mirrorless thing, it's a Nikon thing.

"2 stops under the flash exposure" - that's something said to a daytime shooter to under exposure the ambient and make the subject pop with flash. The Nikons has no problems there.

In a nightclub - there is no need to shoot "2 stops under the flash exposure" as it will be too dark already.

Or if you are in a club where one has to darken the ambient - there is more than enough light for the Z9 / Z8 to get focus. Its when you have no room to darken the ambient is when the AF fails.

I haven't tried the A7IV but on the A9 - I experienced the same AF issue as the Z9 in dark venues.
