Peter , buying your own printer of any reasonable size is a fantastic step..... only if you print regularly. If you are s three prints a year sort of guy  and the humidity levels drop from heating  or your in Arizona , printers clog left to sit. The inks dry in the jets and the head becomes useless.

Most say that a print a week or two at worst is the reason to invest hundreds in the machinery and materials..
