Roger and I are the top posters here, but we are both in single digits now. I remember when the top ten posters were all in double digits.

I guess most of us have found other forums out there to read and post in.

😕

I've been cruising by too this week as I process my 2018 Hawaii photos during the rainy weekend. While waiting for SPP to load on computer, I read on my cellphone...

Everywhere posting seems slow.

Na Pali cliffs DP2Merrill photos are finished and up on flickr under my name Sandy Fleischmann

Indeed and the problem is members have moved to multiple sites; i.e., they visit multiple sites regularly. Additionally, not all members moved to the same multiple sites.

In the long run that is a total disaster, IMHO, as gradually members will drift to only one site of their preference; again these will be multiple sites; perhaps 2 or 3.

Finally, as we live in pleasant polite societies, no effort was made to identify a site where most members would congregate; no one wants to become the Putin's of the camera forums.

Thus the community will fragment into several smaller communities. Furthermore, it is not like "The Sigma Camera Club" is expanding...

I haven't moved yet... Don't know where.

Hello!
I haven't moved yet... Don't know where.
Me neither and for the same reason. And regarding the number of postings: Sometimes less is more. Honestly I must say that I like the forum as it is now. I do not need to read 100 new posts every day and especially not the endless and pointless threads about the full frame foveon sensor that always repeated themselves. Lets wait for the thing to materialise and then we can really discuss! The same about SPP. Everything, really everything that is to say about this software has been said many times over.

If a few more photos would show up then this forum could stay as it is in my opinion.

Regards

Max

In a few years from now, one site will be clearly better than the others. It will attract more users and create more buzz. In time, that site will become the defacto go-to site. This is what I expect to happen. Meanwhile, I intend to use the time instead of arguing the most frustratingly nitpicky obscure topics and extertaining wild expectations on the hundreds and thousands of hours of training materials available.

Which are these training materials? Where?

Sorry Greg, but I let it die over a year ago, because at the time I hadn't posted anything on it for about a year, and when the hosting bill came due I just didn't have the money to pay it.

There are free guides on youtube for photoshop and other programs, and also training courses you can buy or that go on sale during the holidays. Masterclasses on photography, lighting, color theory....just do a web search.

On youtube, start clicking and watching on some of the links like this:

(Lydia composition course)

Even if it isn't exactly what you are interested in, watch it. Once the algorithm sees you have watched it, it will then start recommending other videos and series that were hidden on the first search (there's a lot more available but not displayed than that first youtube search). Google, being Google, will remember these searches and it will be easier to find similar materials next time (the search results will be prioritized). Some universities offer their video classes for free online--just search around. Photographers who run classes will usually sell their materials also--usually higher quality. Note, it won't be specific to Sigma. Since these cameras don't have all the "bells and whistles" others do, I would argue, that means it won't be missed.

There's all kinds of stuff. Like programs that predict where the moon and sun will be, what times are likely to give you the best chance of capturing those special events...where you should be, and when.

Sandy, I looked at these photos from Hawaii and they are very nice and interesting.. perfectly processed.

Really? I guess we should start our own website?? :-)
, but we are both in single digits now.
True, I just got busy. Although I've been going to other websites, mostly DPR Forum and L-Mount
I remember when the top ten posters were all in double digits.

Yes and No. The other forums aren't the same as the group here at DPR, but a lot of the old crew are showing up in different forums. I hate having to go to 3 or 4 different sights to see what's going on. I think a lot of people have given up sense DPR said they were shutting down, and yet they haven't. I think they wanted to cut cost and this is the way they chose to do it. Sad.

I've been selling off gear and going back to more film. I'm not sure what Sigma is up too. Maybe like most camera companies they're cutting back as they see the end of digital coming and cell phones taking over. I hear or see Sony will have a new camera based on Android OS out soon. A hybrid between digital camera and cell phone. And AI is putting a lot of photographers out of business.

The new/old fad Cell Phone and film camera maybe a small digital like the DP1 or DP2. Built in lens

My new kit is DP2x F3hp or FP with Nikon adapter and F3hp. I shoot less junk images or I shoot less nothing images, also I'm looking at shooting a Nikon with a CCD sensor as it's cheaper smaller and looks more like film. We'll see. Less is better. And lastly now that a lot of the original grew has passed on I find some of the fun is gone. I'm 72 now and working on my last bucks list projects. As are my a lot of the old pros I know. It is photography any more it's digital junk/dusk......................
Have fun

Roger J.

Apparently not anymore!

The five top posters are all in double digits now! Yay!
I'm back every now and still also RangeFinder and DPRevived.

RangeFinder guys are not much into discussion just posting pics.

DPRevived is currently spoiled by about five or six trolls some of them from here.

be good,

Ted

Hey Roger, so you're one of those responsible for the resurgence of film, huh?

😉👍

A friend of mine got an old Hasselblad with an 80mm lens from Japan, and he loves shooting with it, even though his "main" camera is a 100 MP Fuji GFX100S with a few lenses. He got a really old 35mm film camera too. He likes the way the film looks.

I still prefer the photos from my SD Quattro H. Maybe I'll finally get an 8x10, but the film and developing are SO expensive.

Hey Roger,
Ha Scott
so you're one of those responsible for the resurgence of film,
Ya, kind of
:-):-)
A friend of mine got an old Hasselblad with an 80mm lens from Japan, and he loves shooting with it,
Great cameras and lenses
even though his "main" camera is a 100 MP Fuji GFX100S with a few lenses.
To perfect film is more real
He got a really old 35mm film camera too.
I have to many of those including Sigma SA7n SA9 SA1
He likes the way the film looks.
So do a lot of us. It isn't perfect
I still prefer the photos from my SD Quattro H.
The H is a lot like film and has a great look.
Maybe I'll finally get an 8x10, but the film and developing are SO expensive.
For and 8x10 they are.

Here two ideas

1. bulk load they own 35mm B&W film and process it yourself total cost about 65 cents per roll. A 100 ft roll is about $62 a daylight loading tank around $10-$15 used processing kit from Freestyle out of L.A. about $50 changing bag $25

2. If you have a inkjet printer use

ARISTA_II_OHP_5_MIL_LABEL_-_SHEETS.jpg

Arista-II Inkjet OHP Ultra Clear 5-mil Transparency Film

You can shoot your SDQ-H and make 8x10 positives using this transparency film or you can make 35mm positives you can make prints in the darkroom or use a scanner.

Have fun

I'm back here half the the time.
