With some excitement I read about possible RF 105 F2.8. Is it likely?
Canon plans to announce a Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS in the first half of 2023
Why does anyone want a lens like that? The 24-70 f2.8 is already huge. This thing would be an absolute beast to carry. It's only f2.8, so it's not going to replace good fast primes and it's not terribly longer than the 24-70. Makes no sense to me.
I hope Canon spends more time making lenses that are useful to a larger group of people instead of catering to the 1% and selling a beast like that for what surely will be an insane price.
I agree. The main purpose of the 24-105 range is versatility. A walk-around/travel lens to cover it all. Nobody wants a heavy lens for that. In fact, I just traded in my Sigma 24-105 Art -> Canon 24-70/f4. The Siggy delivered awesome images but it was just too darn heavy for casual shooting and I found myself always reaching for smaller primes when hitting the streets.
This is what I actually like about the RF 24-105/4 how small and light the lens is while delivering quite good results in an excellen FL range and constant f/4 aperture.
Yep, it was on my list but currently my budget wouldn't allow it so...I had to settle with the 24-70/4 and I really like it. Light, sharp and great colors. A tad warmer than other Canon lenses which I really like.
