FORUM ALTERNATIVES for FUJI USERS. ✅ from MOD-- USE THIS ONE

I joined a Fuji forum some years ago but the regulars on it were so rude and unhelpful I asked them to delete my account. Sadly I can’t remember which forum it was!

I've been an active member on https://www.fredmiranda.com/ for years. I post mostly on the Nature & Wildlife forum and check in on the Fuji forum about once a week. Possibly I'll be more active on the FM Fuji forum. The Fuji forum has both talented and very smart members, a great place to learn and discuss gear. There are quite a few forums that will interest various members and this is the list:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/

Hopefully I'll see some of you on FM.

Morris in that website will they make me do “assignments” and do they “critique” us in that website?? I get the feeling I’ll be going back to school and I hated school not a good impression hahaha!!! 🤣🤣🤣
No, Assignments are for those that chose to participate as is the critique forum. Some forums have more restrictive posting requirements than others and that information is in the FAQ for each forum. For example, on the landscape forum it's one post per 24 hours while on the nature and wildlife the restriction is not present.
I also like the look/format of fuji-x-forum.com a bit more seems to be a little more "user friendly". I don't think I want to join both so I'll have to choose one or the other.
Morris
I can’t join that forum because I have a “free” internet service?? What da heck 🤔

The equation is usually very simple: if there is a lot of functionality for free, you are the product.

And apart from the data mining that is happening (which could be reason enough to stay away), one should look at the copyright transfer you do with your images.

Sites like flickr got scolded for being boring and out of fashion, but my images are my own.

Don’t understand either, but I saw someone having trouble registering because he used a legacy email address that differed from the domain of his provider

Hi all,

Well I've just staggered back into my home after a week trekking far beyond communications in SW Tasmania. To the news. I have to say I'm sorry to hear it.

I've shared a decade + of common interest, conversation, advice and conjecture, and I've appreciated the expertise, input and efforts of so many people here. There's a lot of material to read on it all, and it'll take me some time to wade through what many of you must have already digested. There's a sense of community here - I'd be happy to keep in touch in some other way when the way becomes apparent.....

All the best. Regards,

Rod McD

The good news is there's plenty of existing and proposed forums.

None unfortunately likely replace DPR in totality but it'll be interesting to see what the photo forum universe looks like in 12 months.

There have been a lot of spam problems over the years. Create a Gmail account.

Just FYI, I've got "dprenewed.com" which points to the forum below.

Easier to type!!!

To the best of my knowledge, the following lists do offer some possible alternatives.
FWIW, if your photographic interest is _only_ in Fujifilm gear, there are quite a few places to discuss that, many of which are mentioned in this thread — and a couple of which are mentioned in the original post to which I'm replying.

If your photographic interest extends beyond just Fujifilm equipment you'll probably want to consider at least one of the forums with broader coverage that includes things like photographic genres (street, landscape, etc.), general non-Fujifilm stuff, and even other brands and formats.

The Fred Miranda (FM) forum listed above isn't perfect — no forum is, including DPR — but it does have broad coverage, a fairly large community of users, and quite few new and newly active members who are arriving from DPR.

One thing that has to be said: Some people in some forums make generalizations about other forums, either based on their own personal uncomfortable experience or on hearsay. You've probably seen that on DPR and I've seen it occasionally on FM. But when you come right down to it, each forum has a mix of people that is probably not all that different from the others, and once you get past the initial awkwardness with the forum's organization, traditions, and a new set of people... the experience is likely to feel pretty familiar.

The thing is that for very personal reasons I don’t want to create a gmail account I would like to use what I’m using now. I’ll have to think about this one.

Thanks.

I’m finding Apples Hide my email feature very handy. 😉

This has been mentioned already in this thread but more info has been gleaned. Please read all the way through since there is a lot to see.

The following was copied from a few other forums. I want to stay relatively neutral for the moment on potential landing places for future forum activity. There are a few choices already, FM being one mentioned quite a lot.

However, for those of us on this particular forum who may wish to preserve some semblance of the community we've developed over the years there are a very small handful of potential startups that will allow that to become a reality. The one(s) mentioned in the "copied" text are 2 of them though one has been functional in just the last 6 days and is registering new members. I understand they have been in contact with each other and could merge once "dprevived" gets off the ground. Here is the post and I will make a comment afterwards:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the thread on a possible successor to DPReview discussed in this thread:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4705507

Here is the news.

Three proposals have merged efforts.

The new site will be DPRevived.com, not as originally advertised PhotoForums.com.

There is an interim site https://cameradiscussion.createmybb4.com/index.php hosted by Alansh. This can be used for ongoing discussions. Registrations and posts will be migrated to the long-term site.

ComeHither has created a registration page for the new site. This will be available on DPRevived.com when the name servers sort themselves out. During that the email [email protected] won't be reachable, so pleas have patience.

I'll post again when it's back.

Also, we've been in toch with Soencer and Nasim at Photography Life. They are also proposing a solution, hopefully that will be included under a single banner.

This looks like it might work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been in contact with both AlanSH and Bobn2. AlanSH took my casual suggestion for a name and bought the URL, DPRenewed.com. It is functional and will take you to his forum. Again, this is not a wholesale endorsement. However it, along with maybe one or 2 others, may be a way to preserve in some small way what has been built over the last 25 years. Everything evolves, everything changes. If it ultimately does not work and the diaspora of members continues to spread far and wide, then so be it.

Thanks Bob, DPRenewed.com does work to redirect to the forum below. So far we have around 230 users on there and it's beginning to gell nicely. It's also an exact copy of the DPReview forums but it has what people have asked for.

Replacement forum site https://cameradiscussion.createmybb4.com/index.php if you are interested.
Workingw with DPRevived.com to make this a better world.

Great work Bob, thanks. Finding a landing for the Fuji community would be good. Your efforts are appreciated, as are those of others trying to find an alternative.

Posted this in the other shut down thread, and wanted to post here since I was just able to register.

It appears dprevivied is launching. I was able to keep same user name and even upload same avatar I'm using here now. Obviously more to come I would imagine, but it looks like a promising start.

My understanding is this site and DPRenewed.com may be merging in the future. "Film at 11."

I posted this in another thread which was locked - apologies for not seeing the request to keep this in one place.

Here is the post...

A number of DPR L-mount forum members found their way over to a pre-existing forum named https://l-mount-forum.com. This site has been around for a few years but had a small and inactive membership. In the space of a few days it now has around 150 members from DPR that are actively posting.

The owner of the site also has a Fuji forum named https://fujicommunity.com/. It's the same as the L-mount forum was, i.e. it is quiet and inactive. But if a critical mass of members from DPR joined up, the community would be reborn quickly. Edit: The forum software has nice features (way better than DPR).

The L-mount forum site owner is discussing with forum members some suggestions for restructuring as it has a few too many sub-forums. The same structure applies for his Fuji forum so if you take a look, know that the current setup is not set in stone and could be changed to suit the members.

Worth a look.

I've just registered on the Fujicommunity site. I see he has lots of different communities. If they were all one site with a common user ID, it would look much more like this one.
