Second body suggestion to OM-1
I have the following kit
- OM-1
- E-M1 II
- 8-25 f/4 Pro
- 20 f/1.4 Pro
- 60 f/2.8 Macro
- 300 f/4 Pro IS
- MC-14
- MC-20
I find myself
- using only OM-1
- feeling a bit limited sometimes with a fixed 600mm FOV lens, I don't do hides, I do a lot of birdwatching, so I mainly go out in daylight (even if from dawn), in this period I won't get out with dark at all (and I think for all 2023 this will be), so a zoom lens would be nice. I had 40-150 f/2.8 Pro but was a lemon, unfortunately, so I have a small hole from 60 to 300 now.
- I used 8-25 only twice, I always craved for a wide zoom because I had only primes in UWA region but found that limiting, I thought I would use it a lot but I am focusing more and more on wildlife and I found I rarely take E-M1 II with 8-25 out, maybe because it's a complex to master focal range, and not too close up (much better is 12-45 in that regard), and I got it mainly for that, little landscape photography I do.
- E-M1 II I never carry as second body (or I end up not using at all) because
- I don't get its interface (and EVF with little eye relief, I wear glasses)
- I hate moving focus point with arrow pad
- It's heavy to bring along OM-1 with 300 pro and binoculars (I never go out without) and sometimes spotting scope (Kowa TSN-553, lightweight but tripod with gymbal is a ton)
- I prefer to use OM-1 those rare times I don't shoot wildlife but street
I have received an OMDS promo this morning here in Italy, during few days, of E-M5 III with 12-45 f/4 Pro and a free 45 f/1.8 at 999€. There is also 40-150 plastic fantastic at 139€.
A small note: I have no money to spend. Priorities now are elsewhere (and for a good bit of time...)
My thought is: is senseful selling E-M1 II and 8-25 and get that kit, adding 75-300 (which with cashback goes for 459€ new) or 40-150 plastic for a few to no bucks (depending where and how much I would sell body and lens)?
