Mastodon #microfourthirds

For those of you "looking for a new home" and baffled by Mastodon and the Fediverse, let me explain it all a bit:

Pick an "instance"/"server" - which is basically geek speak for a place to host posts. It can be any instance. It's the "fediverse", a clever spin on "federated universe". All servers interact - just like the (wait for it) Internet. The internet, is not one server. Neither is Mastodon. Mastodon is just a doorway to all this "stuff".

Example: you can join "photog.social", and see/post to "masto.ai" or "pixelfed.social" or anyone that's in the fediverse. You can move from instance to instance, in case the one you chose is getting crowded. It's just a "digital neighborhood". You're not locked in.

In fact, you can make your own instance/serve and have it join the "fediverse". Sweet.

What to find people with #microfourthids" cameras, search for #microfourthirds and follow that search or the people. A specific brand or camera model? #(whatever term). It's very flexible,

Moderators? Well, the instance admin is the prime moderator, but the truth is we all have the power to moderate ourselves. Since we all have moderating control, folks are very polite.

Each instance is crowd funded - so be generous. The admin can't pay for all this out of pocket for your benefit. There's no ads and no profit motive.

I'm there (https://masto.ai/@thinking_images). I have been since the Twitanic sank. This is social media that we control.
