***DPReview Shutdown Threads***

Where we'll go as a Pentax community?

Hi everyone,

with the incredibly sad news that the Dpreview is closing ... what would be the place to meet again?

It is crazy! For over 20-years, I'm almost daily (probably weekly) checking this website .. and now it will be just GONE!

It was really nice here .. I enjoyed talking to you guys .. learning from you! Thank you and see you soon somewhere else ...

All the best,

Marek

To the Pentax Forums, where else? I will sorely miss DPReview :-(
Alex, can you please provide a more detailed information where (and how) to register? It would be fantastic if all of us moved there. (...)
As others suggested, I would recommend Pentax Forums:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/
I agree.

It is actually a better place for Pentax content. Better reviews, a good and reliable marketplace for both buyers and sellers, and better for content. I'll miss some stuff here of course, but it's always been better over there for Pentax stuff, going back to old stuff.

Already at Pentax Forums under the same name but rarely use it.

This forum was slightly easier to work with.

At least now I can more regularly look at Mightymikes list of film equipment for sale... or find another coloured kx body to buy.

It's actually been a small but significant part of my life where I have been able to express my art and my thoughts.

See you on the other side.... 🖐

Or anyone got anywhere better ?

Some of the folks on this forum I've known for the whole 19 1/2 years I've been here, from when there was only Pentax talk, and Pentax SLR talk came later. I just hate the idea of there not being somewhere where all those familiar folk are.

Beyond that probably best keep to other threads.
Definitely PentaxForum. It's a great receptacle of information, in fact the reviews for Pentax gear are my go-to when thinking of purchasing something for the format. The community is good, too. The forum UX and underlying tech are kind of sucky, unfortunately, and posting images from anywhere but another hosting site is a pain. Mange your expectations. But the actual content is very good!

I have enjoyed beeing a member of this community. It has been a source of learning and plesure. It is really sad the forum are closing. I hope all the Pentaxian here can find another spot to meet and share. Thank you for the time Dpreview. But it is sad news. I am going to miss you all.

Me too but the interface at PF is not as good as Dpreview. I wish they could chop of the forum and let it continue somehow. Maybe donate the code to PF.

The PF marketplace is great! I used it as a buyer and had only positive experience.

To meet and discuss as a pentaxians.

How does something like this affect Ricoh’s nearly nonexistent marketing strategy? Although many have been disappointed by level of Pentax coverage in DPR, this was a venue where Pentax related news and rumors were visible in a mix of many brand options. That broad exposure disappears altogether in brand specific websites, and the few remaining establishments where one can actually view, handle, and compare different cameras disappear regularly.
I wish Pentax would aggressively flood YouTube/Rumble/Instagram with short (say, 15 minute max) 'lessons learned' using their brand ambassadors as content creators. Include testimonials, commentary on post processing tools, discrete Pentax camera features, various settings, subjects, etc... the number of topics and photog issues easily solved by using a Pentax is almost endless.

Could be a great way to build brand awareness (and help me up my game ;-) ).

My 2 cents... M :-)

Hmmm.... I wonder if they will get the K3-III review done before they shut down?

A sad day for sure. DPR has been a wonderful resource for my digital conversion over the last 15+ years. The Forum has its own strengths but is not a replacement for DPR. *)@!%*#. Wonder what Chris and Jordan's plans are?

It’s a great community. I’ve become much more active there, than here.

it is more about Pentax photography than gear or technical discussions, though you can certainly find those there. It may not be a perfect substitute for DPR forum, but I commend it to all Pentax shooters here.

I like the pentax forums, but i dont currently own a pentax -- so while i was already on dpreview i would sometimes pop in here to see how pentax was doing... This really bums me out...

I have a pentax 645D itch to scratch so im sure ill be back over there at some point.

Since I pre-ordered a K3 iii, this has been my go to group for equipment questions. And you guys have been incredibly helpful. In only have 140 posts in 2 years, but I read a lot. I will give PentaxForums a try. Perhaps it will be adequate or perhaps an alternative will be organized. I am certainly willing to pay for access to a site where the folks in the Pentax SLR forum can interact in a manner similar to the DPReview site.

Also, as others have mentioned, if someone can scrape this forum and make the years of tremendously helpful information available in a searchable form, that would be a huge service. I would think that the hosting costs for such a site could be pretty affordable.
