Can someone recommend a good macro flash for the Sony A7r3? What characteristics make a good macro flash?

Thanks,

I think the only real difference between a good, all-purpose TTL speedlight and macro is having a good reserve and quick recycle time. You'll probably use flash more than a wedding photographer.

Hi, I agree with that

I wasn’t sure I’d get on with flash and so bought a small Godox tt350c. It’s very good in general, and rarely off my camera. It’s only when i try a high speed burst that I only get 3-4 shots before a blackout.

so make sure it has 4 decent batteries, eg eniloops

the above suits me for handheld

dont forget a diffuser of some sort

more advanced than basic., then…

off camera flash also helps

twin flash guns are useful

Ring flash doesn’t seem to get many rave reviews
