Has anyone tried it ? Any feedback would be nice!

I’m currently on 1.7.0 and haven’t noticed any problems so I don’t know should I update to new one…

Regards

Loaded and installed fine but I don't have much time on it yet.

It still will not allow the focus box to change size using the Rate button like you can on the R6-2. I was hoping, makes me wonder why they bothered with the 1.8. Maybe more will come to light as time goes on.

Successfully downloaded the 1.80 to my R6 MK1, did a quick test, but honestly dunno what to look for. I don't do FTP server stuff, so this upgrade did nothing for me. The only thing I'd be interested in is the bug fix, but that's something never advertised. Unfortunately. :(

No love for the R5?

What, specifically, was 1.7.0 supposed to address and now, 1.8.0?

Andy

From Canon site:

Firmware Version 1.8.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:
1. Adds the ability for images to be cropped and resized during transfer to the FTP server.
2. Fixes minor issues.

Firmware Version 1.7.0 incorporates the following fixes:
1. Fixes an issue that, in rare instances, may result in the camera not operating normally when capturing small subjects.
2. Fixes minor issues.

I did upgrade of my r6 to firmware to 1.8.0 and it basically made a brick out my camera. In C1-3 modes it does not shoot at all moreover it was even refusing to turn off with mw ef 500 f/4 ii attached. Everying written here I fully confirm including error 70 https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/...6-Firmware-1-8-0-Causing-Error-70/td-p/408451

I had to use trick described here https://petapixel.com/how-to-downgrade-canon-camera-firmware/ to reverse to 1.7.0 (I used Method 1 it worked). One detail my r6 was bought just a year ago.

Oh wow, wish it all worked out in the end for you! Thank you for the feedback! At this moment I guess a firmware update is a no go.

I am in the software development business and normally the software versions are numbered as follows:

X.Y.Z

where

X = big changes, often redefining the user interface, often accompanied with a new purchase contract

Y = smaller changes but significant, in terms of added features to the existing version; usually coming for free

Z = bug fixing.

What Canon seems to do is to ignore X, Z and use Y for whatever.

Canon appear to have pulled it. It's not longer on the .co.uk site, and this message appears on the US site:

"Unfortunately, the latest firmware version 1.8.0 for the EOS R6 is temporarily unavailable. We anticipate the firmware being available in the near future; therefore please check back soon for your download."

I always wait a few days before updating just in case there are any wrinkles. Or worse...

I upgraded my factory refurb R6 to 1.8.0 last week (the downloaded file is dated 3/3/23) and have taken it on three shoots since then with no problems. I've been using custom C1-C3 settings, so I quckly reviewed those settings today after reading the error reports. The camera performs fine in all three custom modes, so I won't be attempting a downgrade to firmware 1.7.0.

I have also noticed it is removed from European site. Only 1.7.0 is currently available, so apparently something was not right with 1.8.0

I hope they can add some more significant features, although I’m currently pretty happy with my R6 and really couldn’t ask much more for my non professional use.

No problems. I do use FTP but I’m not certain what benefit this new feature will provide to me.
