Setting “Detail” to 0 in the sharpening panel will indeed prevent “worms”, but it will also prevent fine detail (very significantly so with the new 40MP files). Some sharpening “Masking” is generally a good idea to prevent unnecessarily sharpening (accentuating) the low level noise and X-Trans demosaicing artifacts, especially as the ISO rises, but with the “Detail” at 0, you aren’t getting anywhere near all of the useable fine detail out if your RAW files. If people aren’t seeing a noticeable improvement in detail with the new 40MP sensor vs. the old, that’s probably why.
