If you can't tell, I'm really torturing myself with the thought of selling my R5. Trying to imagine any of the things that I could do, or do much better with my R5, than my R7 ?

Same thinking here - but when one gets close to filling the R7 frame such that cropping off a wing, tail or legs etc - the R5 comes into its own. Those larger pixels excel at higher ISO too - and with closer subjects a long lenses chance for even better background blur. 45 MP high quality pixels gives great cropping power too - the R7s are nice but I don’t think one gets a full 1.37X extender effect. There seems less (but still some) rolling shutter on R5.

So given the used price I would get now for my R5 not being great - the camera has some cosmetic marks from use - plus some unique benefits - mine is a keeper

No doubt the R5 is an amazing camera. I've definitely considered all the stuff you mentioned... 100 X's lol

Really, I think my biggest reason for wanting to drop the R5 for another R7, has just been my experience with the R7 for the last month, then trying to go back to the R5. I just didn't enjoy it, and my R5 didn't perform as well, in my backyard testing.... Or, in the field. And the thing about the back yard testing, is that I was able to get really close to my subjects (we have a bunch of feeders, and hundreds of small birds all day long. Its like an aviary :)) And still, my keeper rate was just not as good. I never thought shutter shock was an issue with the R5.... but compared to the R7 which I have shot in 100% ES mode, it seems like shutter shock might be a problem, even at higher shutter speeds. Remember, I typically shoot at 800mm... or a 1280mm equivalent with the R7.

Of course the week after I sell it, Canon is going to come out with this huge firmware update, giving sound, and maybe different fps options to the R5.... which would help a TON !

And... see my update below....

I'll probably go with KEH for the body, and MPB for a couple lenses and accessories.... My quotes for all that stuff is $3300.

But anyway, besides my personal experiences with both of these cameras, 14 months for the R5 and 1 month and probably 25,000 shots taken with the R7.....

I have been PM'ing with 3 photography friends who each also own the R5 and the R7.

One says he will keep his R5 around for video. (I never shoot video)

Another says, "If he could get a bit more for his R5", he would probably sell it for another R7.

The other does more wide angle stuff than I do, plus some video.... but still uses his R7 more, and for my shooting, he agrees two R7's would probably be a good idea.

And all 3 of these folks ^ are phenomenal photographers ! ....or should I say, folks I aspire to shoot like ! {I mean, you wouldn't ask folks for advice, if you thought your stuff was better than theirs anyway, right lol)

.... and none think I'm crazy. Certainly not as crazy as I think I am lol

Another thought, whatever happens in the future, with new bodies and such, having $1500 "per body" invested, won't feel like such a huge deal, or where I feel like I'm so locked in. $4K for the R5, is probably more than I need to have invested in 1 body in the first place. So the R5 might end up being the closest thing to a professional body I'll ever get to. It's been nice... but it's time to say good bye.

PS, Plus now, I'm probably going to be shoving that second R7 in my GF's hands, more often when we are out..... probably with the RF 100-400 on it. She likes wider angle, more artsy stuff. Perfect for her

Every day in the field is a blessing. Nice photos, of beautiful birds and wildlife are just a bonus.
