If you can't tell, I'm really torturing myself with the thought of selling my R5. Trying to imagine any of the things that I could do, or do much better with my R5, than my R7 ?
Same thinking here - but when one gets close to filling the R7 frame such that cropping off a wing, tail or legs etc - the R5 comes into its own. Those larger pixels excel at higher ISO too - and with closer subjects a long lenses chance for even better background blur. 45 MP high quality pixels gives great cropping power too - the R7s are nice but I don’t think one gets a full 1.37X extender effect. There seems less (but still some) rolling shutter on R5.
So given the used price I would get now for my R5 not being great - the camera has some cosmetic marks from use - plus some unique benefits - mine is a keeper
No doubt the R5 is an amazing camera. I've definitely considered all the stuff you mentioned... 100 X's lol
Really, I think my biggest reason for wanting to drop the R5 for another R7, has just been my experience with the R7 for the last month, then trying to go back to the R5. I just didn't enjoy it, and my R5 didn't perform as well, in my backyard testing.... Or, in the field. And the thing about the back yard testing, is that I was able to get really close to my subjects (we have a bunch of feeders, and hundreds of small birds all day long. Its like an aviary :)) And still, my keeper rate was just not as good. I never thought shutter shock was an issue with the R5.... but compared to the R7 which I have shot in 100% ES mode, it seems like shutter shock might be a problem, even at higher shutter speeds. Remember, I typically shoot at 800mm... or a 1280mm equivalent with the R7.
Of course the week after I sell it, Canon is going to come out with this huge firmware update, giving sound, and maybe different fps options to the R5.... which would help a TON !
And... see my update below....

Every day in the field is a blessing. Nice photos, of beautiful birds and wildlife are just a bonus.
