Hello, all!

I'm looking into building a whole new kit around an R6. I've never shot mirrorless and have heard they can be harsh on batteries compared to DSLR.

How many batteries would you want on hand for 4-8 hour days of wildlife shooting? I know battery life can be highly variable, but just wondering what you all carry in the field.

I don't shoot much video. I shoot pretty low bursts. I use the viewfinder, and try to run a lot of power-saving settings.

Thank you!

When i am somewhere trying to shoot some ”wildlife” the battery really lasts long… in theory 1 battery/day is enough if you are not making videos.

Anyway, on a trip to Switzerland one battery lasted about one day. Long walks. My 5DMkIV usually consumed much less. Like 500 shots with R6 and 1100 with 5D/ one full battery

When i go out for a day i usually have 2 spare batteries  just to be sure. Very often i need one, especially when it is colder. I have never really needed 3 batteries /day
