Its okay for other people to be baffling, much better than for example, calling them silly or stupid just because you have a different experience, so don't sweat it, no worries.

Your review simply makes no sense whatsoever. I could see taking a point off because a camera lacks a feature that would be useful but isn't a deal breaker. A rating of 1, though, indicates (to me, at any rate) that the camera is so defective that it can't be used for its intended purpose. It's very, very hard indeed to envision this being anything close to a dealbreaker.

You said that you "generally take rubbish photos with any screen held at arms length, whether phone or camera it doesn't matter". OK. I prefer to use a viewfinder myself. When I put my (R7) up to my eye, I'm looking through the viewfinder. The screen isn't even in my field of view, and if it were, it would be shut off anyway. So I simply can't see how this would distract you. Are you saying that you see something you want to shoot, and in the process of raising the camera to your eye, the viewfinder display distracts you to the point that you immediately shoot, and don't continue raising your camera to your eye to compose properly? That's about the only thing consistent with what you're saying. That sounds like something you need to work on. You also said that you don't want to turn off the screen altogether in part so you can use it to move the AF point. But you need to see what's on the screen to do that, correct? And no DSLR works that way in reflex mode.

If your reason for downrating it were that you wanted the power savings of the screen being off, or that you were shooting in dark venues where the display was distracting to other people around you, I could understand that (although you could also solve the problem simply by facing the screen in). But the reason you gave isn't merely baffling, it's downright bizarre. It almost sounds like a spoof, except that your rating counts.

Its not all bad with the R6 of course. Perhaps I should have increased the score to reflect that.

A camera with outstanding focus and all that doesn't sound like a 1-star camera at all.

The info screen options manage what is displayed on the rear LCD. Assuming sometimes people may want this blank but still available for touch drag af and image review, the best button to cycle through the options is the info button because that button is already doing that job.

I don't see how you can do touch drag AF without the screen being on.

We don't need to gatekeep the ability for users to request new features or vent frustration about their absence. The option is on the R5. If you own an R5 and don't want the blank screen, you can ignore it. Same with the R6 and other EOS models if it is added. There's nothing really more to write about the subject. I don't have the time or expertise to write an essay on ui design or philosophy. I just know what I like.

Sure, asking for new features is fine. Downrating a camera all the way from 3-4 stars (which is what it sounds like you'd otherwise rate the camera) for missing this one feature that sounds like causes you problems because you're not concentrating on what you're doing is not the way to do it.

The issue you mentioned about being able to activate focus peaking in AF during manual override makes a lot more sense and I could certainly see knocking a star off for that.  It would be a very useful feature indeed.  But you never mentioned that in your initial review. The only thing you mentioned was the rear LCD thing.  It makes you look like a bad photographer, to be perfectly honest.
