Re: Can't turn off Live View

Firstly, I’m sorry you are having difficulty, but truly don’t understand your issue, in particular why having anything on the rear screen makes a difference to putting the camera to your eye and using the viewfinder. It should be set by default that putting it to your eye switches off the LCD and turns on the EVF. If for some reason yours isn’t working like this, it can be set that way in the menu. If having thd image on the LCD annoys you, just turn it to the settings screen using the info button, and you can still have thd image review after taking the image if you choose - menu again. I agree that Canon could add option 6 as per the later firmware for the R5, but they haven’t, so R6 owners have to live with that. I know many R6 owners an not a single one has complained about it or found it an issue. I know several R5 owners and very few use the blank screen option - of even know it exists.

Secondly, it seems you are unhappy with the performance of the R6 EVF and I think many will agree, if compared to an R5, or even better, the R3. But this is true price differentiation, not a deliberate downgrade by Canon, as the three bodies have progressively better (and more $$) EVFs. Coming from a long line of film and digital SLRs I also initially preferred OVFs, but soon got used to the EVF in my R then R5, and even the “lowly” RP, as I appreciate the additional information displayable, and particularly the performance in low light, where an OVF shows its inherent limitations. In very low light an OVF is mostly black. Remember your mirrorless camera is like a dSLR in live view. And you get vastly better AF with mirrorless, which is inherently the result of being in live view all the time.

Finally, if you are happy with your 5D4, and can accept its differences from an R6/5/3 etc, it’s still a fine camera. When you put it on a tripod and use live view it will be just like an R.
