Re: I'm sold on the free Capture One express (up to a point)

Hi DJF55-
Actually, I stand corrected. The newer version of Silkypix Developer Studio for Fujifilm does seem to support newer cameras the XT5 and the XH2. My version does not. It is not upgradable however it seems like each "new version" is $30 and the new versions do seem to emerge as new cameras come out. The "limited times" of availability pop up regularly although, to the best of my knowledge, it is not available consistently.

Here is the website - https://silkypix.isl.co.jp/en/ext/special/dsp10fuji/

For a wobbly hobbyist like me with an X-Pro3 and a fondness for street photography,  Capture One Express for Fujifilm which is free, and Silkypix Developer Studio for Fujifilm which costs $30, are more than adequate for my needs.
If this was my profession, I would almost certainly require more sophisticated software. But this is for fun and, to my mind, it is most certainly not fun spending hours plugging away at complicated and expensive software.

Again, Sorry for the confusion, susan

I love Capture One Express for Fujifilm. It's speedy, reliable, and always excellent. I mostly shoot in monochrome so I use it most of the time.
HOWEVER, for color, I usually prefer Silkypix. I started using the free Raw File Converter that I downloaded from the Fujifilm website and somewhere along the line, I actually decided to pay the princely sum of 30 bucks USD for SILKYPIX Developer Studio Pro 11 for FUJIFILM. Mind you, if you have a later model camera, you're out of luck. But for the cranky old ladies and hipster wannabes who are still using their old 100s or XPros, Silkypix for Fujifilm is an extremely inexpensive way to get unsurpassed film sims while converting RAFS to TIFFS.
If you earn a living taking photos or you believe or want to believe that your fine work demands 100s of dollars worth of software to make it look that way, by all means, knock yourself out. I take pictures to please myself and part of that pleasure is knowing that I'm not pauperizing myself with superfluous software.

I have been using an old Lightroom 4 processing Tiffs produced from Iridient X-Transformer which produces excellent results, but is a laborious process compared to directly process RAF files. Yesterday I downloaded the free Capture One express software and after trying it I am impressed with the high quality image JPEG output. I think this may my new way to process all my RAF files.

Have you tried using Capture One Express?

Thx for your comments re Silkypix. But what do you mean by being out of luck with later model cameras? According to this list - https://silkypix.isl.co.jp/en/product/dsp11/ - all cameras seem to be listed. The only restriction is noted in footnote 26 re Clear View.

I would be interested in your Silkypix settings and for which camera(s) you apply them. Thx.
