Hey fellow Canon shooters-

My world changed with the Canon R5. I adorned it with the Canon 15-35 2.8 RF, 100mm 2.8 Macro RF, and my main lens (for wildlife) the Sigma 500mm F4.

The sigma is excellent, but the 2 RF lenses are outstanding!

I have an opportunity to cover an important outdoor event, where I would have used my older 24-70 2.8, & 70-200 2.8 -both EF L lenses.

Anyone using EF lenses on an R5? I don't use them much now, but compared to the RF lenses, they seem soft. The 70-200 was a reliable workhorse for me in the past. But wide open it was always soft. The focal range is perfect for events. I won't be paid enough to buy new glass right now. (I could rent if necessary) Just asking for opinions from other shooters with the same gear.

Thanks.

Your EF 70-20/2.8L lens will work just fine, but won’t magically be improved optically. If it was soft on a dSLR it won’t be any better unless that softness was due to autofocus errors, which would be eliminated with a mirrorless body. Also - do you need to shoot at f2.8? You could happily use f4 for better sharpness at higher ISO using your R5, and get great results. My own experience was with the 70-200 f4 L IS, which performed just as well on my R as on my 5D4. I now have a R5 with the RF 70-200 f4L, and it is better than the EF, but only by a small margin.
