How about the ability to turn on lens IS with body IS turned off? It seems it would be so simple to implement.
Do you not think many of the systems would be affected?
How so? The IBIS already is locked if lens IS is turned off. So what would be so difficult about keeping it locked if some firmware switch were enabled instead? Six of one, half a dozen of the other, it seems to me. What am I missing?
If the IS is on does the IBIS have to run?
Obviously not, since it doesn't have to run on my 5DS.
This is a question regarding the R5.
So, for the R5, if the IS is on does the IBIS have to run?
Yes, the way the firmware is written - so update the firmware.
Do you know how the firmware is written?
No.
And, if I may, you are absolutely certain of this?
Does it matter?
I am trying to understand if what you have said is known to be correct or it's something else.
I am also trying to understand if we can ask you other software/system questions relating to the R5.
So for that yes.
Your 5Ds and my old 5DS I've found IBIS not very beneficial but fantastic battery life.
My R5 disappointingly runs out of battery just sitting on the shelf with the switch turned off. They should fix that, too.
Interestingly batteries discharge on a shelf as well but hopefully one day that will be fixed.
The batteries last WAY longer in my unused 5DS than in my unused R5. Like a couple orders of magnitude longer. What in the world is the R5 doing when not in use that uses so much battery?
I was hoping you would be able to tell us 🤗
Do you have any data on how long a single full battery will last in your R5 without use? I would guess I've gone 7 days on a rare occasion.
Do you have airplane mode on?
Out cameras are almost used daily and I've never measured it's Q current. Keep it cool and low humidity may help (may not becuase if the Q current is high then it won't be relavant).
I have two 5DSs and one R5. I sometimes go for a period of several days using only one or the other. That's when the battery runs down while the camera is off.
