My guess is Canon is doing a new sensor for the R5 II and it is not ready. I don't think Canon had any plans for a 2023 release of the R5Ii. The release of the R6 II made people think an R5II was coming soon. I think the next R5 will be announced about this time next year. I also think competition and market challenges is forcing Canon to finally do a big R5 firmware update. The R5 has the memory and processing power to support additional features. I personally would like to seem more options for ES beyond the 1 image and 20.

The only body ever receiving a decent midlife kicker was the 7DII.

Maybe the parallel is indeed that Canon has other market segments to fill first and existing users can be kept satisfied for a while.

I will be very glad to use my R5 as long as the 7DII.

Getting the life I got out of the 7D2 would be great, but honestly, I bet the next few years will see significantly more advancement, so that might be tough.

Which update are you referring to on the 7D2, I don't remember any significant updates other than the WiFi card compatibility?
