This is the correct answer.

Except it doesn't appear to work that way.

I just modified all 7 registers and then started cycling through them. Now I can only select one of those registers (C1 - C7) and when I do the word "BASE" appears above the register number in small text, presumably indicating "this is what the camera is now set to".

C2 has a film simulation I added, all other registers have been modified with Noise Reduction changed from "0" to "+1".

I then scrolled to C2 using the Q-menu and selected it.  This is what it shows now.

Then I went back to the Q-menu and scrolled through all the registers and they all show the NR change.

So it seems like the only way to get back to "no modifications" is to leave one register unmodified.
