Anyone care to speculate why this seems to be the case? I wouldn't think there was a technical limit on mirrorless that makes ultrawide zooms more difficult to design than for DSLRs.

Of course it isn't any more difficult. Any DSLR design is a valid mirrorless design.

The real reason why it doesn't exist is because there isn't enough demand to make it a priority yet. Of course, you can use the current 15-85 in the meantime, if you want that.
