I don't know that Nikon actually makes their filters. I've had excellent results from Hoya HD and HD2 filters. I see they're now on the 3rd generation, and it looks pretty pricey. One thing I like about my Hoyas is that their filter factor was (at the time) lower than other brands, yet they polarized about the same.

I used to use B+W CPLs, but at the time (about 10 years ago) I had problems with both of my B+W CPLs' mounts binding (others reported this as well), which is what got me to change to Hoya. B+W almost certainly has fixed the problem by now:

Whatever you decide on, don't get a cheap filter.
