Just keep your D500. It's a superb camera, and you don't need to spend any money. You should see the simple cameras I used to make superb photos of my children way before digital.

I don't know what makes you think you need to go out and buy an R5 with all the trimmings. It just isn't necessary. Of course if you want to blow a lot of money, nothing is stopping you. But all you really need, frankly, is one lens. A single, normal kit lens zoom would be more than sufficient, and I would recommend it over all the fancy primes you fancy. For small children, you could also experiment with a 50/1.8 or 85/whatever.

If you make it all about banishing a trace of noise, and getting superb focus of an eyelash but ears that are completely out of focus, you will have missed your children's childhood completely.  It isn't about the gear.

And by the way, you need a camera your wife will use when something cute happens. The cameras you covet probably do not meet that description.
