Seems they are saying the rumor of R5 demise (or R5 II's rise) are greatly exaggerated

Firmware updates that offer extended product features are always welcome. Canon must want to make current unsold stock more attractive to new buyers.

I wonder if the R5mk2 is not production ready or it’s release has been stalled to allow old stock R5 bodies to clear through first at full RRP.

There are rumours of the Nikon Z8 coming soon, I thought Canon would release soon after.

My guess is Canon is doing a new sensor for the R5 II and it is not ready. I don't think Canon had any plans for a 2023 release of the R5Ii. The release of the R6 II made people think an R5II was coming soon. I think the next R5 will be announced about this time next year. I also think competition and market challenges is forcing Canon to finally do a big R5 firmware update. The R5 has the memory and processing power to support additional features. I personally would like to seem more options for ES beyond the 1 image and 20.
