How about the ability to turn on lens IS with body IS turned off? It seems it would be so simple to implement.

Do you not think many of the systems would be affected?

How so? The IBIS already is locked if lens IS is turned off. So what would be so difficult about keeping it locked if some firmware switch were enabled instead? Six of one, half a dozen of the other, it seems to me. What am I missing?

I don't think Sony or Nikon allow it either (from a quick Google search), so that would suggest they have seen something they can't easily circumvent. I think its reasonable to believe there is an underlying obstruction to allowing freedom of IS/IBIS.

What is the use case for this feature? Why would someone want to turn off one or the other which would reduce the capability of the combined system.

You are making an assumption here: that it would reduce the capability of the combined system. It could gum up the works. Do I trust the IBIS algorithm? I don't have to, if I can shut it off. I trust the lens IS. I should be able to rely on it.

True, but it is an assumption based on Canon's own advertising. They seem to claim a couple more stops of stabilization when you combine a stabilized lens with a body e/w sensor shift stabilization (like the R5).

Just off the top of my head a use case would be panning. Does IBIS work properly when panning? I don't know. But if I could, I'd shut it off to be sure.

Does panning work for you using the combined system?
