How about the ability to turn on lens IS with body IS turned off? It seems it would be so simple to implement.

Do you not think many of the systems would be affected?

How so? The IBIS already is locked if lens IS is turned off. So what would be so difficult about keeping it locked if some firmware switch were enabled instead? Six of one, half a dozen of the other, it seems to me. What am I missing?

I don't think Sony or Nikon allow it either (from a quick Google search), so that would suggest they have seen something they can't easily circumvent. I think its reasonable to believe there is an underlying obstruction to allowing freedom of IS/IBIS.

What is the use case for this feature? Why would someone want to turn off one or the other which would reduce the capability of the combined system. I suspect that they don't offer it because it complicates the system without providing any real benefit.

Think about it, they would now need to develop, test, deploy and maintain three separate IS setups for each lens. Different servo gain settings etc. Without a real strong use case, this is crazy.

For use with a Canon other than the R3, there is one good reason, mitigation of the image warping that occurs. By itself its barely visible, but most people don't like knowing its there.

Honestly, I don't know if I notice ANY difference with IBIS versus the IS on my DSLRs in the past. I just don't see it. For me, IBIS is almost useless, as I shoot almost exclusively above 200mm where IBIS really loses its effectiveness.

So, me personally, disabling IBIS is not a big deal. I really couldn't care less. I assume there is a little value for me in saving power, but again, not much gain there. For others, I can definitely see a value to disabling the linkage to cure the warping.

I was going to mention the warping, but I've noticed it mainly with electronic shutter, so I don't use electronic shutter in those circumstances anymore. Global electronic shutter would be nice.
