IQ will be a major downgrade.

The OP is not into shooting RAW, so he/she hasn’t experienced the D850 true IQ capability, so IQ does not matter in this case.

What the OP should switch to is a D500 which is perfect for birds, and is a smaller lighter APS-C AND he/she will save tons of money by keeping the F mount lenses.  To me that’s a win win situation and it doesn’t get any better than that 😃

I'd switch to Nikon Z if I were you because the weight and size savings for equivalent lenses in Fuji land aren't really noticeable. Not to mention you can adapt your F mount lenses to Z.

Case in point; the new XF 23mm F1.4 is heavier and more expensive than the Z 35mm F1.8. The 16-55 F2.8 is heavier and more expensive than the 24-70 F4 and the list goes on.

The only reason I'd switch to Fuji would be if you were planning on using only the smaller F2 lenses and an XT body because then you'd actually notice the size and weight difference (sacrifing IQ still).
