If you like to go really budget - how about trying a Fuji Finepix X10?

It's a contemporary of the X100 and X-E1 and shares many features with them - including the great JPGs as the X10 has the same image processor as the X100 and X-E1.

And don't forget the really nice and bright lens, with equivalent focal lengths between 28mm and 112mm (F2.0-2.8), and optical image stabilisation (!).

It really is a great travel camera!

At present a used Finepix X10 in good shape is still very affordable (200-250 GBP/EUR) as the digicam crowd seems to go mainly after the later X-trans versions (X20 and X30) . These are more expensive and have the EXR Processor II also used by the X-E2, X100s etc (so X20/30 give different, more contrasty JPGs compared to the X10).

Here is a size comparison of the X10, the X-E1 with 27mm, and the X100 (the heaviest of these three!)
