If you are considering the Canon system you should assume no third party autofocus RF lenses in your decision criteria.
That's what it is in reality, but Canon is trying to raise false hope we could see third party RF AF lenses in the future. That false hope is needed as it will help Canon to sell more RF bodies. The R8 is nice, and it seams great value for money, but once you want to pair it with the good zooms it's pay back time for Canon.
No one is dumb
....
enough to buy Canon R bodies in the hopes that someday somehow there will be Sigma AF lenses for it.
I think a lot of RF camera owners where hoping this, because there was simply no information, and some or a lot might be still hoping because they aren't aware of availability of the information. "Dumb" is your word.
I don't think the tiny tiny number
ah, the statistic evidence, thanks
of people who are aware of this statement are any different.
People buy R bodies because they use RF or EF or manual adapted lenses on them. Otherwise they buy another brand, as they should.
Haha, the ideal world. Every customer is very smart and knows everything, so it's impossible to mislead customers.
Canon's not hiding the ball at all;
Canon was hiding the ball, definitely, and they are still trying as hard as they can to hide that ball.
it's quite obvious, no? And every manufacturer wants to sell you lenses. Canon seems to be doing quite well over the last 5 years selling their bodies and lenses.
Did I state otherwise?
This is Canon we're talking about. If third party lenses are an important consideration in the decision, go Sony.
That's what I did. The 50GM was 450 euro less than the RF 50mm f/1.2 L, and discount included even 650 less. A also picked up a used Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DN for 700 euro in stead of 3000 euro for the RF 85mm f/1.2 L, so that's 2300 less. The A7IV was only 2450 euro discount included, so I got that body for free still having 500 euro spare change.
A good choice. Why not? If you like Sonys and Sigmas, go for it. Why worry about Canon then?
Because I would rather shoot my preferred glass on a Canon body, and I would love to shoot just one system was well. I can't though, as Canon only has too heavy slow focusing 50mm and 85mm premium L primes and only mediocre budget 50&85mm stm options having too slow AF as well.
