We all know ...

We all know that Canon isn't going to hand over (or even license) the rights to the RF protocols.  They never did with EF.  Nothing will change.  With EF the manufacturers just reverse engineered everything and the products worked with varying degrees of success.

The difference now is that some manufacturers are working with 3rd party lens makers because they have to in the current market.  Canon thinks it's the 900 lb gorilla in the room and can dictate everything.  3rd party lens makers can surely reverse engineer the RF mount.  Heck they can just make lenses with a physical RF mount and use the EF lens protocol and they'll work.

The difference now is the 3rd party manufacturers are working together with other brands and they just don't seem to care that they don't have RF products. They are going after the low hanging fruit so to speak.  I'm sure they are plenty busy making lenses for every other mount out there.

Since we all know what Canon will do there's really nothing to change.  However, Canon could at least put out a lens roadmap for its users.  I think that would be both helpful and be a bit of a goodwill gesture at the same time.
