Geez. That actually makes sense! Allow 3rd party makers to make lenses you don't want to make or maybe don't have the capacity to make. That's a win for everybody and a refreshing line of thinking.

I'd love to see Canon do something like this but it will never happen sadly.

When I see a lens like the Sony 20-70 4 I really have to think if it's worth switching. Rarely does it make sense to do so, but for me the lens could do 90% of what I need and there is nothing like it in Canon or anywhere else really. One has to be impressed with the lenses Sony is coming out with lately.

While Canon has some great lenses, and some which are unique, there is no doubt Canon RF users have the least options overall.

Now if Sony can make a 70-200 4 as compact as Canon's that might see the deal for me.

Or better yet, Canon can make a 20-70 4 like Sony's, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
