I haven't read all of the replies so if this has been said already I apologise.

To the best of my knowledge the only statement Canon has made was specific to Viltrox and asking them to stop selling lenses that infringed on their patents & intelectual property rights.

Again to the best of my knowledge, this affects af lenses only, as there are a lot of 3rd party RF manual focus stills & cine lenses on the market.

We can infer that what Canon said to Viltrox has been relayed to other 3rd party lens makers as well.

What we don't know is if & when Canon might license or otherwise allow 3rd parties to sell RF af lenses or if & when a 3rd party lens maker can reverse engineer one without infringing on Canons patents.

Until then its really only a matter of does Canon have the lens that you want at a price point that is reasonable to you and / or are you willing to adapt EF lenses.

If the answer is yes (which it is for me), then no problem. If the answer is no, then there are plenty of other brands out there all with their own plus's & minus's that may be a better fit for you.
