There are already a number of RF mount 3'rd party lenses available, but they are all Manual Focus, as apparently, 3Rd party manufactures can't reverse engineer the RF AF system without patent infringement.

Small companies avoid the attempt, as a court battle with a "giant" like Canon would break them, and the bigger ones, like Tamron, Sigma, are seemingly reluctant to "take on" Canon, so long as there business is still successful without them.

Non the less, since Nikon and Sony "welcome" 3rd party lenses; it's clear that Canon vehemently opposes them.

So, first time buyers have a choice, go with a Company that will allow you more choices of lens selection's, or one that discourages your use of any brand but theirs.

When I sold all of my EF gear, I could just as easily, expense wise, have switched brands, rather than to buy into Canons's R/RF system.

Had I known at the time that Cannon would take such an aggressive stand against 3rd party lenses, while Nikon welcomed them, I would now be shooting with a Nikon Z rather than my EOS R5!
