When you guys start going down these rabbit holes I just get confused. So, in a simplistic and common sense way, doesnt more MP necessarily mean that there are more pixels to capture an image and so by definition almost, there would be more detail captured with those more pixels? Not necessarily scientific analysis but just what common sense would tell me. More pixels capture more information capture more resolution of whatever it sees. And you are saying that is not true?

Well, it depends.  I would think you'd need to go above the native size of the 26mp sensor to see it is what I was saying.

So if I have 40 mp, and I crop those 40 mp it gives me more “room” to crop and retain detail so I would think that means there is more detail in that 40 MP image than a 26 MP image.

Well, it gives you more resolution, not necessarily detail.

Are we talking words of art here, or simply the common definition of detail. 40 MP has more detail than 26 MP. At least that is what I would think, and real world results bears that out.

It has more resolution.
